Payton’s Random Rants
My view of the world.
Re-inventing the English Language: Plant-eating PredatorsWhat’s a predator? According to the Oxford English Dictionary: “noun 1 an animal that preys on others. 2 a person who exploits others.” Now, according to the BBC, there are plant-eating predators, too. Yes my friends, this is what passes for journalism these days. The BBC, which holds itself up as the standard by which all other journalism is judged, passes along tripe like this that attempts to redefine the English language. Now, I’m not sure how a plant qualifies as “others” since it’s obvious that the term “others” is inferring other animals. But just to make sure, let’s get a second opinion on the word “predator”. Mirriam-Webster defines predator:
This leads us to predation:
Yup, it’s pretty clear that being a predator mean you eat animals, not plants. Sure, some predators do eat plants as well, but when you read the news “article” you’ll see that no such inference is made, rather quite the opposite.
So, what’s the point to all of this? Simply that the media is constantly trying to vilify anything it perceives as aggressive in nature, whether it be a meat-eating predator or a plant-eating “predator”. In the Utopian world of the leftist press there simply is no room for aggression at all. Why, aggression leads to all kinds of bad things, such as competition. Sometimes competition even leads to aggression. Oh, my! Oh, the humanity!
Perhaps we are supposed to live our lives in a much less aggressive way than the predatory cow. Of course, we’d might starve to death, but not likely since we would be competing with other animals for oxygen by breathing, so we’d need to stop that, too.
